Karl Kuykendall

Karl Kuykendall is a seventh-generation Texan and cradle Catholic who has lived within the Diocese of Austin for over 50 years. Karl received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at S.M.U. Karl Kuykendall, a former Temple Independent School District school board member and commercial banker, served as president of Bank of America in Temple. He later oversaw commercial operations for the bank in Central, South, and West Texas. Mr. Kuykendall is an accomplished author writing books for the Catholic Diocese of Austin. In 2023, Mr. Kuykendall published “Faith & Perseverance: The History of the Catholic Church in Central Texas,” exploring the history of the Catholic Church and creation of the Austin Diocese. Mr. Kuykendall also directed the production on “Treasures of the Diocese of Austin,” a coffee-table book commemorating the diocese’s 75th anniversary. He has been active in civic and community activities for many years, and he has served the Catholic Church in various capacities. Karl was a member of the Finance Council of the Diocese of Austin for over 20 years and he is currently on the Executive Steering Committee for the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Austin. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Our Kids at Heart, and he has been on committees for Ascension Texas Healthcare. Karl and his wife, Susan, are parents of one adult son, Will, and enjoy their standard poodles, Lili and Ana. Susan and Karl reside in Temple, Texas, where Karl is an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.
